Ronald McDonald House Fundraiser Due June 3
Austin Burris is collecting Pull Tabs from soda cans, soup cans and pet food cans to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald house. Pull tabs may be turned into the county 4-H office by June 3, 2013.
Archery Certification Workshop
Tulare, CA
A 4-H Archery Certification Training for volunteers and junior/teen leaders will be offered Saturday, June 22 , 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, June 23nd, 9 a.m.- 12 noon, at the Unverferth Building, 1903 S Blackstone St., Tulare, CA 93274 . You must be an enrolled 4-H leader or member and attend both days to receive certification to teach archery at the project, club and camp levels. The course will include a PowerPoint lecture, review of equipment, practice shooting and teaching, and a written test. The cost is $10 per person to include a resource binder, and light refreshments. Lunch is on your own, and there are several eating establishments close by.
To register, please complete and mail the “CA 4-H Shooting Sports Training Request and Registration Form” available at http://www.ca4h.org/files/2123.pdf, and an adult or youth 4-H medical release form and a $10 check payable to “Tulare County 4-H Leader Council” and mail to Tulare County Archery Certification Training, 4437-B S. Laspina St., Tulare, CA 93274. Registration is due Friday, June 14, 2013 and space is limited. On Line Record Book Maintenance
ANR Communications will be doing some maintenance on our servers here at the State Office. During these maintenance times, the 4-H Online Record Book (ORB) will not be accessible. Please pass along the following dates and times to your volunteers and members so that they are prepared. Here are the times that the system will be down:
• Database transfer of ORB - Friday, May 24, 8:00 AM to Noon
• Move of ORB to campus datacenter – Tuesday, May 28, 8:00 AM to Noon
• Full network outage – Saturday, June 15, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
If anyone has any questions about ORB you can contact our ORB Team at anrca4horb@ucdavis.edu. If anyone is having trouble with the ORB system outside of these times, they would need to fill out a bug report by completing the survey at http://ucce.ucdavis.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=6811
Camp
There is still room if you are interested in signing up for camp. Forms can be found on the Merced County 4-H website or you may pick them up at the 4-H office. Camp is Saturday June 22-Wednesday June 26th this year. Campers come up on Saturday instead of Friday and come home on Wednesday.
Milk Bar and Friends Helping Friends
We still have several milk bar shifts open. If you are interested in working a shift please let me know. These are activities that can be included in your record books.
2013 State Leadership Conference

What is the 4-H State Leadership Conference?
The 4-H State Leadership Conference brings together high school youth from across California in a four-day leadership training, networking, and learning experience. The conference provides advanced leadership training and is an opportunity for 4-H members to network and share ideas with other 4-Hers from across the state. The conference focuses on providing high school youth with experiential education on leadership development, civic engagement, college admissions and other 4-H project areas.
Youth delegates gain exposure to the campus by living in the residence halls, eating in the dining commons, and participating in educational sessions, many of which are taught by UC faculty and staff.
The conference is planned by a team of high school 4-H members and adult advisors. Working in strong youth-adult partnership, the team designs the educational, recreational and logistical components of the conference.
Participants must have graduated 8th grade in order to attend (ages 13-19).

New Healthy Living Officer Position
Are you looking for ways to integrate healthy living practices into your 4-H club? Starting in the 2013-2014 program year California 4-H will be adding a Healthy Living officer position to the 4-H Officer Manual. The Healthy Living officer will serve as the club’s ambassador for health! By choosing to elect a Healthy Living officer your club is taking an active role in promoting healthy lifestyles. The Healthy Living officer will be the leadership for all health activities including: providing ideas on how to incorporate physical activities and healthy eating into each club meeting, write Healthy Living articles for the club newsletter and adopting and promoting a club Wellness Plan. Please help ensure that the health “H” of 4-H is at the forefront of all our meetings - consider electing a Healthy Living officer! State Leaders Forum

100 Years and Thriving – Come celebrate California’s Centennial of 4-H with your 4-H colleagues at the State 4-H Leader’s Forum (SLF) at the Crowne Plaza in Sacramento. More information will be on the CA State 4-H website by the end of January. In the meantime, we are recruiting workshop presenters for this momentous event. Traditions or transitions, changes or choices, what kinds of information, issues, inspirations will you share with the delegates? JOIN The Revolution of Responsibility! $1,000 is available to 4-H Clubs and Groups

To JOIN the revolution, 4-H members, with the help of an adult 4-H volunteer mentor, should follow these steps to plan a project.
- Identify an issue or problem in your community.
- Find community organizations to collaborate with.
- Plan the project: form goals, outline tasks, list needed resources, and prepare a budget
- Prepare ways to document and record your project to share with others.
