Ballico-Cressey 4-H Revolution of Responsibility Grant

For a second year, the Ballico Cressey 4-H club received the Revolution of Responsibility grant for $1000. The club contacted Superintendent Bryan Ballenger of the Ballico – Cressey School District to see if there were any projects that could benefit students in their community. Mr. Ballenger gave several ideas and the club voted on helping to add to the school garden. Currently the garden has 2 four foot by six foot planter beds with no irrigation system. With the expansion of the garden, more students can learn about agriculture, nutrition, life cycle, and expand their writing and vocabulary skills. The school is also trying to promote a healthy lifestyle and the fruits and vegetables grown in the garden will be used in their lunch salad bar. When the project is completed, 4-H members will learn important life skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, planning, and budgeting. In May, the club added two new four foot by twelve foot redwood planter boxes, an irrigation system with automatic timer, and six new fruit trees.
